Jodi Rell ignored you. She vetoed PA 10-97 (Senate Bill 493), our energy reform legislation. She turned a deaf ear to your thousands of calls, e-mails, faxes and letters calling for energy reform and sided with power producers, the utilities and Wall Street speculators who have driven our electricity prices to the second highest in the United States only to Hawaii.
As complex as this issue is, the battle lines are clear: on the side of consumers, there is CCAG, AARP and CONN PIRG, Attorney General Richard Blumenthal and the Office of Consumer Counsel; environmental groups such as Clean Water Action, Environvent Connecticut, People's Action for Clean Energy, CT Fund for the Environment, Sierra Club CT, Audobon CT, and CT League of Conservation Voters among others; dozens of solar energy and other renewable energy source contractors such as Greenskies Renewable Energy, Solar CT and groSolar among others.
The opponents include Wall Street speculators who buy electricity and resell it to us at a much higher price represented by Goldman Sachs, the same financial corporations who have driven our country to the brink of the Second Great Depression. The retail marketers who profit by giving you discounts off of our artificially high rates are represented by companies like RBS Sempra Commodities Grop, GDF Suez Energy North America, Exelon Corporation, NE Power Producers Assoc. and Retail Energy Supply Assoc. They are middlemen between the power producers and you, producing nothing but taking your money. To override Rell's veto, we need 24 votes in the Senate; the final vote was 20-13 with 3 absent. Please make 3 calls:
- Call your State Senator and tell them to vote to override Rell's veto on the energy bill.
