DIRTY MONEY IN OUR POLITICAL SYSTEM
In exchange for keeping multi-billion dollar federal oil subsidies, companies like Exxon and BP have given $25 million in campaign contributions in last year’s 111th congress alone. Since 1999, over $137 million has been given to re-elect legislators who protect these oil companies. Though the contributions are more heavily concentrated among Republicans, Democrats are not immune to Big Oil’s dirty money.

Campaign finance reform must be a priority on Capitol Hill. Taking away Big Oil’s ability to contribute to a legislator’s campaign will halt Big Oil’s ability to buy off our legislators votes.
CONSUMER PAIN AT THE PUMP
The prospective markets of oil have consistently driven up the price of oil. The law of supply and demand wouldn’t explain the large jumps in oil prices in 2008 and those expected for this summer.
Why?
Wall Street speculators will often trade a barrel of oil 20 times before it finally gets used. The price increases each time with the final markup being passed on to the consumer.

It’s time to stop Wall Street from jacking up the prices on Main Street! Connecticut citizens must call on our Attorney General to investigate price gouging at the pump and to prosecute those who profiteer off consumers.
American families and seniors are struggling - oil companies aren't.
Want to cut the deficit? Let's start with tax giveaways to big oil companies whose profits are at record highs, NOT the Medicare our seniors already paid for OR the financial aid that helps our kids go to college.
Top recipients of dirty energy money claim to be tough on deficits, but insist on driving up our debt to pay for wasteful giveaways for their Big Oil donors.
What do we want America to be: a nation where oil companies pay their fair share in taxes OR one where working families and seniors bear all the burden?
Investment in clean renewable energy sources and technologies means jobs
Wind power has been the fastest-growing source of new electric power for years, and the solar industry grew by almost 70% last year alone. This put the U.S. back in the forefront of the global energy industry.
The best way to bring jobs and prosperity back to this country is also the best way to end our dependence on foreign oil - by harnessing our limitless supply of clean energy and building wind turbines, solar panels, and energy-efficient products that say "Made in America."
We have led every technological revolution of the last two centuries, from electricity to telephone to automobiles, and we can lead this one too.
What can you do today?
Tell Congress to end our reliance on fossil fuels and to invest in clean energy and technologies for American jobs and prosperity
Let them know that you expect them to end all government handouts to oil, gas and coal companies and reject campaign contributions from these Dirty Energy industries . Tell them to use our hard earned tax dollars to invest in clean energy sources and technologies.
