CCAG is committed to our financial security, and is partnered with Americans for Financial Reform to push for the change we need in light of the global economic crisis.
The financial industry is spending millions to block the creation of an independent Consumer Financial Protection Agency. Please join CCAG and help us stand up to these big special interests.
In his first State of the Union address, President Obama reinforced his ambitious agenda to fix the economy and enact financial reform, including measures to hold Big Banks accountable for their reckless actions that led to our financial crisis and the loss of millions of jobs:
"The House has passed financial reform...And the lobbyists are already trying to kill it. Well, we cannot let them win this fight. And if the bill that ends up on my desk does not meet the test of real reform, I will send it back."

After you've written, be sure to call Senator Dodd at (202) 224-3121. Thank him for supporting the creation of a Consumer Financial Protection Agency (CFPA) without weakening states' ability to protect consumers and to please continue to fight for an independent CFPA.

Who We Are
As the nation continues to reel from the current financial and economic crisis, the need for real change in the rules of the financial game has never been clearer. Americans for Financial Reform is a coalition of nearly 200 national, state and local consumer, labor, retiree, investor, community, and civil rights organizations that have come together to spearhead a campaign for real, comprehensive reform in our banking and financial system based on accountability, fairness and security. Through a coordinated campaign, including organizing and outreach, communications and policy, we will work to clean up Wall Street’s mess, and ensure that the job of rewriting the regulatory rulebook is not left to the financial predators and inside players who caused the problems we now face. Americans for Financial Reform will hold our elected leaders accountable, and insist on a strong role for the public in making crucial decisions about our economic future.
What We Want
Americans for Financial Reform will fight for real financial reform, including:
- A strong and fair regulatory system that has the resources and authority necessary to police Wall Street and the big banks.
- A consumer watchdog agency, the Consumer Financial Protection Agency (CFPA), which, like the FDA for food and drugs, will set basic safety standards. We need the CFPA to protect families, and the market as a whole, from loans designed to trick and trap us, and to encourage fair competition.
- A banking system that helps people stay in their homes; and makes smart investments in communities and businesses to create good jobs and strong neighborhoods.
- The democratization of the Federal Reserve, so that it is transparent and accountable to the public and independent from control by the banking industry.
What We Do
The organizations that make up Americans for Financial Reform bring together an unprecedented level of expertise in policy, advocacy, mobilization, public outreach, media savvy and legislative strategy. We have already begun working nationwide to ensure that our voices are heard in Washington, with the goal of passing real financial reform legislation this year. Our campaign will expose the practices of the big banks, Wall Street firms, and inadequate regulation that caused the financial crisis, and fight for viable alternatives. We will bring together the voices of hard-working Americans, combined with smart policy alternatives, coordinated actions, and a determination to hold our elected representatives accountable, to take advantage of this unprecedented opportunity to win a more secure financial future.
